Croke Park for the birds? Let GAA Central Council decide

SO the Abbotstown project has been put to bed. In the heel of the hunt, it was a victory for financial sanity.

The GAA undertook to assist in popularising Abbotstown in return for a £60 million government grant to the Croke Park development. No doubt the parties will be reviewing the deal in the days ahead.

Croke Park is a world-class stadium and a prime national asset. Undoubtedly it will require more regular usage to assure its viability. With rare exceptions, it will be for the birds exclusively from September to June as long as the rule 42 restriction remains in place. Only GAA Congress can change the rule.
