Incinerator no threat to heritage valley

BRIAN HANRATTY (Irish Examiner letters, November 3) is incorrect in his statement that Indaver Ireland’s municipal waste incinerator in Co Meath will “pose a new threat” to the heritage of the Boyne valley.

Incinerator no threat to heritage valley

This has been confirmed by UNESCO, the UN body responsible for the protection of world heritage, who carried out a detailed study of our site and stated in their subsequent report that they had “come to the opinion that the current application will not have a major effect on the outstanding universal value and the visual integrity of the archaeological ensemble of the Bend of the Boyne (Ireland)”.

UNESCO has also dismissed concerns that our proposed facility, with the increased stack height, would impact on the Battle of the Boyne site within the buffer zone of the World Heritage site. The reports states: “The construction of the incinerator would not appear to preclude any possible interpretation of the course of the battle.”
