Killarney: night revelry reveals its dark side
So the description of Killarney goes, on the Killarney 250 website.
All is well in beautiful Killarney. At least, this is how it seems. As a visitor to Killarney for over 40 years, I have witnessed the many changes in both the built environment and in the development of the many amenities.
Since moving here two years ago, and living in the town centre, the buzz, friendliness, and choice of restaurants and facilities never cease to impress - but after 2.50am Killarney takes on a more sinister role.
Mostly alcohol-fuelled, a small minority of revellers each weekend night unleash their pent-up anger, stomach contents and aggression. They also take to shouting at their loudest so the residents in the by-day pretty tranquil lanes have to put up with an unending stream of abusive noise.
Perhaps Killarney should be rebranded as “one of the best places to live, work and play, visit and enjoy - between 8am and 2.50am”.
