Don’t cry for Paddy Cosgrave, but take careful note of what has befallen him. The rumbustious entrepreneur has resigned as chief executive of Web Summit, an annual event for global tech that has grown to attract 70,000 people. If you’re a tech bro, it is, or was, a stapled on part of your diary.

Cosgrave came crashing down when a whole raft of big names withdrew from attending this year’s event following a series of tweets he issued. The tweets were considered to be anti-Israeli in the context of the current conflict. So Paddy had to fall on his sword.
