Election posters are a threat to road safety
In the last election, we had posters placed on roadsigns and the practise is being continued furiously again in this election.
I refer to signs facing traffic. I do not see any problem putting signs on the back of roadsigns.
But in the interest of safety I do not think that the placing of posters should be allowed on warning signs, speed limit signs, signs advertising junctions ahead, and no signs should be allowed on entries to roundabouts.
I also see posters on yield right of way signs.
We are a curious people and the tendency is to look at such notices, especially if they are put up recently.
They are distracting and a brief few seconds, as the ad’ on television tells us, is all it takes to cause an accident.
We don’t want injuries or, worse still, fatalities.
Any party pursuing this policy will not get my vote.
Why should a candidate place numerous posters on the one spot anyway?
