KERRY County Council told a meeting of councillors yesterday that the local authority has endured a 54% drop in funding for regional or local roads over the last seven years. The Kingdom is not alone on this basic issue.

All around the country secondary and minor roads are falling into dangerous disrepair, some of them are verging on being unpassable.

Minor roads are not the only ones deteriorating and issues with broken or damaged surfaces are exacerbated by worn away road markings in far too many instances.
