Forensic scientists deserve praise for speaking out

The Irish public can only hope that criminals did not view your front-page story of last Thursday ( ‘Forensic science agency in crisis mode’) as an invitation to commit more crime.

Congratulations to those forensic scientists who spoke out against under-funding and staff shortages. It would be a shame if this short-sighted approach by the State led to an increase in undetected crime. And it might be worth remembering this news story if, several years hence, we find criminals walking free due to a lack of reliable court evidence.
