Charge Ryanair passengers by weight
May I propose that the amount charged is linked to the individual’s BMI, (Body Mass Index). On each flight there would be four weight classes.
First is underweight class which is less than 18.5 BMI, next is normal class 18.5 to 24.9 BMI, then overweight class 25 to 29.9 BMI, and the last is obesity class having a BMI of 30 or more.
If underweight you get a carry-on bag at no charge.
Normal gets you a carry-on bag for €10 extra. Overweight pays €20 extra for a carry-on bag. Obesity class cost €3 per carry-on bag.
25% of people in Ireland are obese, 35% are overweight, 30% are normal and 10% are underweight.
So, on a full flight with everyone having a carry-on bag, on the Boeing 737-800 which seats 189 passengers, Ryanair would make an extra €3,300 per flight! €0.00 for 19 underweight seats, €570 for 57 normal seats, €1,320 for 66 overweight seats and €1,410 for 47 obesity seats.
By the way, Michael O’Leary being 5ft 10in and weighing 170 pounds would be considered normal, at a BMI of 24.4.
