Maureen O’Hara’s timeless legacy

I wish to respond to Conor Ryan’s comment (Aug 11) that “In a fight over how her legacy should take shape, Ms [Maureen] O’Hara could yet be left without one.”

Maureen O’Hara’s timeless legacy

In May, 1999, Maureen O’Hara was asked “How do you deal with incorrect publicity today?” Her answer was: “If it doesn’t damage and harm your reputation and your family, you just try to forget it because you’d need millions and millions of dollars to fight the incorrect stories in court and then the lawyer would wind up with all your money and the stories would be printed and the stories would still be believed by most of the people who read them. The wise thing to do is to ignore them and keep your money in your pocket.”

There have been many incorrect statements in the newspapers. However, respecting Maureen’s feelings stated above, I will merely say this: Maureen O’Hara holds her family as a most precious gift. Ms O’Hara’s love for the Irish people and their uncanny ability to perform has not diminished. Her desire to see a Legacy Centre remains intact. She knows who her friends are.
