IN her letter (January 13), Florence Craven starts well in her criticism of RTÉ paying female journalists less than men, but then seeks to generalise to “many other” employers and ends by telling us gender equality has gone into reverse.

Recently the Health & Safety Authority published last year’s workplace fatality figures (almost entirely male) and the unemployment figures show men are twice as likely as women to lose their jobs. Equality is a two-way street, but some people are still unable to see this.

In the circumstances, Ms Craven’s comment that she would appreciate it if sexists openly declared themselves as such might have more truth closer to home than she is ready to face.
