Stamp of apartheid

YOUR report of the Government’s plan to fingerprint all non-EU nationals living in Ireland (November 24) is worrying and confusing.

This seems to promote separation, segregation and apartheid. It seems Ireland is sending out three messages — “you’re welcome, you’re suspect, you’re separate.” If immigrants are to be fingerprinted, why not tourists? Why do we have to copy some of the worst aspects of European history? Equality promotes integration. Inequality separates people and keeps them apart.
