Moral deficit

ON the issue of animal rights, I agree with Margaret Twohig (Letters, April 23) that we have a long way to go before we measure up to Gandhi’s idea of a moral nation.

However, Gandhi in his wisdom also said: “It seems to be clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime”.

I agree fully that we should protect animals from cruelty, but what about the cruelty and pain involved in the abortion of an unborn child?
