A rain warning that was due to remain in place on Monday morning for Cork and Kerry has been lifted.

However, the two southern counties are expected to be hit with a spell of heavy rain between 4pm and 10pm as another status yellow rain warning is set to come into effect.

Met Éireann has advised that outdoor events will be impacted and the forecaster has also warned of difficult driving conditions, with localised flooding possible.

Both counties also remain braced for strong and gusty winds later on in the day, with a status yellow wind warning to be in place from 5pm for both counties, along with Clare, Waterford, Carlow, Donegal, Galway, Kilkenny, Mayo, Wexford and Wicklow.

The warning will be in place until midnight, during which very strong and gusty south to southwest winds are forecast.

Met Éireann has warned of the possibility of difficult driving and cycling conditions, as well as large coastal waves.

The forecaster has also warned of the possibility of fallen trees and branches.

In Cork, Cork County Council announced on Sunday evening that the 'Malloween' event at Mallow Castle has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions forecast for the area.

The event was due to take place between 4pm and 7pm on Monday evening.

"The decision has been made in the interests of public safety and following careful consideration of the weather warnings in place. Cork County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their understanding," the local authority said.

The latest weather warnings follows two storms in recent days – Storm Austen and Storm Boelo.

Power outages remain in some areas of the western seaboard on Monday morning, with worst affected areas being in Sligo and Donegal.
