Travel disrupted as more than 40,000 premises without power following storms
Caution
More than 40,000 homes, farms, and businesses are without power following a heavy night of winds and rain spurred by Storm Boelo.
The brunt of the damage has been felt in the northwest of the country. The ESB has warned that there may be further power outages throughout this morning, as Met Éireann weather warnings remain in place.
“ESB Networks crews have been deployed since first light in all impacted areas to continue to carry out the necessary restoration work where safe to do so,” the State energy company said.
“We expect the vast majority of impacted customers to have their supply restored by this evening.”
Flights continue to face cancellations and delays, largely due to weather issues in other countries. As of 9:30am, Dublin Airport have cancelled 12 inbound and 12 outbound flights from today’s schedule.
Two outbound flights and one inbound flight at Cork Airport have been cancelled.
A yellow wind warning remains in place for Donegal, with members of the public urged to watch out for loose debris, fallen trees and the potential for large coastal waves. A yellow wind warning is also in place for the whole of Northern Ireland.
Met Éireann has projected that Storm Boelo will bring windy or blustery conditions for most of this morning, with gales expected across the northern and western coasts. Showers will generally be confined to the northern half of the country.
Winds are expected to peter out by the evening, with clear spells and isolated showers forecast. It will become cloudier overnight with outbreaks of rain expected to spread to all areas by Monday morning.
