Gardaí do not suspect foul play following the discovery of the body of Jack O’Donovan, a man in his 20s, at a golf course in Macroom, Co Cork.

Mr O’Donovan, from Dan Corkery Place in the town, was found by a walker at around 9.30am on Friday, October 23, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been carried out, but the results are not being released for operational reasons. A file will now be prepared for the Coroner.

The discovery has prompted an outpouring of sympathy and shock in the town, with one local councillor describing the news as “demoralising”.

Independent councillor Martin Coughlan said the discovery was particularly difficult for the community.

“You hear of this in places like Waterford and Mallow recently but when it comes to your own town, it is demoralising,” he said.

Mr Coughlan extended his sympathies to the deceased man’s family.
