Vehicles parked near Tipperary fire station broken into as crews tackle Slievenamon wildfire

Members of the Irish Air Corps provide aerial support in tackling a major wildfire as it continues to burn at Slievenamon in Co Tipperary.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a number of overnight thefts and damage to motor vehicles parked near a fire station in Co Tipperary.

The incidents took place as fire crews from across Tipperary continued to tackle wildfire blazes on Slievenamon. 

Its understood that a number of those affected by the incident are members of the fire service. 

Gardaí are currently investigating a number of incidents of theft and criminal damage to motor vehicles that took place on Barrack Street, Cahir, Co Tipperary between 12:30am and 1:30am in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

A technical examination of the scene has been conducted, and gardaí are appealing to road users who may have dash cam footage to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Meanwhile, fire crews from across Tipperary continue to battle an intense wildfire on Slievenamon that broke out earlier in the week.

On Saturday, Tipperary County Council said firefighting efforts are continuing today on Slievenamon as ground operations intensify.

"Crews remain active on the south side of the mountain, responding to flare-ups and hotspots, while monitoring continues across the wider area." 

It added: "Specialist equipment is supporting firefighters in challenging terrain, and a multi-agency response remains in place to contain and suppress fire activity."

"Smoke may be intermittently visible on the eastern side of Slievenamon. Residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions, are advised to take appropriate precautions if necessary."

"Tipperary County Council and Fire & Rescue Service thank local residents, landowners, farmers and support agencies for their continued cooperation and support."
