Flooding could be in store with a status yellow warning set to hit five counties this Tuesday.

Met Éireann issued the status yellow rain warning for Dublin, Louth, Meath, Wexford, and Wicklow, with the warning coming into effect at 9pm.

The forecaster is warning of "heavy rain", which could be persistent and lead to spot flooding until the warning elapses at 2pm on Wednesday.

For the rest of the country, Tuesday afternoon will see some sunny spells, especially in the north and west with just the odd shower.

Cloud thickening can be expected in the east and south, however, bringing some patchy rain to the southeast coast later.

Temperatures between 9C and 12C can be expected, with moderate north to northwesterly breezes.

On Wednesday, outbreaks of rain can be expected along the eastern coasts, persistent in parts during the morning with some heavy bursts, and possibly some spot flooding. These will ease away northeastwards during the afternoon and evening.

Further west, the occasional sunny breaks can be expected, with highest temperatures of 6C to 13C, with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.

The forecaster has said the weekend is likely to remain somewhat unsettled with rain and blustery winds.
