Storm Éowyn: 45,000 still without power and 400 without water

As well as the power outages and water failures, Storm Éowyn is thought to have had the greatest impact ever recorded on Ireland's telecommunications.

Some 45,000 people are still without power though fewer than 400 remain without water in some parts of the country.

That’s according to the Department of Housing who say the National Emergency Co-ordination Group is continuing to co-ordinate efforts to restore power water, telecommunications, and other services following Storm Éowyn.

Power has been restored to 712,000 but thousands of homes, farms, schools, and businesses remain without supply.

Large-capacity generators provided by Poland and Denmark are being deployed to support Uisce Éireann and telecommunications operators to bring water, phone, and broadband services back to homes and businesses.

Skilled technicians from Austria, Finland, France, and Britain are working on the ground in the worst impacted areas.

The estimated effect of Storm Éowyn on the national telecoms user base was the largest one ever recorded.

Restoration work is showing significant progress in restoring connectivity and several fixed service operator networks have been returned to normal service levels, with the most impacted areas being the north and west of the country.

ESB Networks has reminded the public to "Stay Safe, Stay Clear of fallen electricity wires". It has advised to never touch or approach fallen wires or damaged electricity network as they are extremely dangerous.
