Taoiseach will answer Budget questions in the Dáil today

The Taoiseach will answer questions in the Dáil today on the Budget his government has unveiled for 2016.

Enda Kenny is preparing to face the Opposition while Cabinet ministers field questions in radio and TV interviews.

The Coalition is hoping measures like cuts to the USC, investment in childcare and a freeze on the property tax will help them back into office next year.

However Sinn Fein's Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty has said cutting the tax take while reining in public sector investment is not sustainable.

“Tax to (Gross Domestic Product) GDP will continue to decrease year on year, and so will expenditure to GDP.

"Now what that means for your listeners is don’t expect the trolley crisis to go away,” Mr Doherty said.

“Do not expect homelessness to be addressed, do not expect the housing crisis to be addressed and don’t expect the fact that we have income inequality or child poverty to be addressed because you cannot do two things at the same time.

“You have to invest in services.”
