Hundreds of people gathered across the country today to pay tribute to the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.

Events in Dublin, Cork and Galway got underway at 12 noon today.

A large crowd gathered at the Spire on O'Connell Street, for a silent march in solidarity with the victims.

Many people were carrying pens and French flags in honour of those killed in terrorists attacks in Paris this week.

People were also carrying posters with the words "Je Suis Charlie" and "Is Mise Charlie" printed on them.

French ambassador to Ireland Jean-Pierre Thébault led the march in Dublin City today and expressed his appreciation for the support of the Irish people.

"It's overwhelming, you know," he said.

"It's a sign of support for the whole French community, it's a sign of support for freedom."

In Cork, a silent vigil took place in Daunt Square in the centre of the city.
