Greyhound workers 'doubt sincerity' of management in dispute resolution
SIPTU workers at the Greyhound Recycling Plant are highly frustrated by the latest set-back in the long running row over pay-cuts and changes to working conditions, the union said.
Exploratory talks were adjourned again last night after Unions and Management from the waste company met at the Labour Relations Commission in an attempt to bring the dispute to an end.
No date has been set to resume negotiations. 78 workers from the waste company have been on the picket line for the last 12 weeks.
"We entered those talks very sincerely - I have to say we were extremely disappointed with the company's position in the talks," said SIPTU's Stephen Lewis.
"I cannot put it in any stronger terms than this: we now doubt [company owner] Michael Buckley's sincerity in trying to reach any satisfactory resolution to this dispute, and it seems he only wants to resolve this dispute on his terms."
He said the company's position has not moved at all in the past 12 weeks, and they are sticking to the same demand for a 35% pay cut.
