Gardaí stand down search as all body parts found in Meath

Gardaí have said they are satisfied they have found all of the body parts of convicted drug dealer Christopher Gaffney.

A search of a woodland area in Co. Meath has been officially stood down and a full post mortem can now take place.

Specialist search teams, including Garda divers, spent three days combing an area known as the Mayne, near Clonee in Co. Meath after passersby stumbled upon a severed arm on Friday.

More body parts were found in black plastic bags during the course of that search and the victim was identified as 37-year-old Christopher Gaffney, from Blanchardstown.

Gaffney was well-known to Gardaí and had spent some time behind bars for drug dealing offences.

Gaffney was reported missing on October 1 and Gardaí believe his remains may have lain undiscovered for a number of weeks.

A final body part was found in a stream last night and the search has now been stood down.

A full post mortem will establish exactly how he died and will assist Gardaí in their murder investigation.
