Taoiseach retraces grandfathers steps at lighthouse

The Taoiseach has been retracing the steps of his grandfather as he officially opened the Loop Head Lighthouse in Clare for the summer season this evening.

Enda Kenny described the event as a special day for his family as he recalled the life of his grandfather James McGinley who served as principal light house keeper there in the 1930's.

Taking time out from campaigning for the EU Referendum, the Taoiseach has told Clare FM that he would be back to take a break on Loop Head when things have calmed down:

"I'd actually like to bring Fionnuala and the children down here to one of the dwelling houses and stay for the weekend", he said

"I think that’s the great thing that the public can actually come and stay in the dwelling house of the light keepers and walk around the headland. Feel the power of nature if you like, get themselves in order, bring down their heads as it were, and get ready for the next onslaught".

"...Maybe after June 1st but certainly not before", he added
