Christy O'Connor: Sibling links on camogie and hurling’s biggest days

On the afternoon that Cork and Limerick met in the Munster championship in April, Cork played Limerick in the Munster senior camogie semi-final as the curtain-raiser in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Tipp won by nine points but it would have been a far bigger margin only for an outstanding display from Limerick goalkeeper Sarah Gillane, who pulled off three excellent saves in the second half.
It was only a footnote on a disappointing day for Limerick as they also lost the hurling game to Cork. But it was a landmark day for Sarah Gillane in the sense that the wider hurling public, or those in the ground that watched the camogie, realised that the talent in the Gillane house wasn’t restricted to her older brother, Aaron.
