Family leaves house after bank worker shot in leg
The family of an innocent bank worker shot twice at his front door have moved out of the home.
The injured man’s brother and 10-year-old son returned to the house in west Dublin to pack belongings as he was treated for two bullet wounds to the leg.
Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the gun attack on the 32-year-old bank worker after he answered a call to his house last night.
Gardaí are investigating whether the injured man, who has no criminal convictions, was mistakenly shot or if he had been threatened recently.
“There’s no clear motive at the moment so we’re looking at all aspects of it,” said a Garda source. “There’s no big track record there.”
The shooting happened at about 10.30pm yesterday when the man opened the door of his home in Corbally Green, an estate in Citywest where he lived with his partner and child.
A masked gunman fired several shots at the door, hitting his victim twice, before he fled the scene.
The bank employee was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where his leg injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A relative at the scene, who removed clothes and possessions from the house in black bags, revealed the family do not wish to return to their home, at least for the time being.
Three bullet holes could be seen in the white PVC front door of the semi-detached house as members of the Garda Technical Bureau forensically examined the area.
Bullet casings, believed to be from a 9mm handgun, were also discovered in the driveway where two cars, a Ford Mondeo and a BMW convertible, remained parked.
Elsewhere, a Volvo car found burnt out in the nearby Carrigmore Estate in Saggart was being examined for any link with the shooting.
The 05 registered vehicle had been stolen earlier in the month.
Gardaí in Tallaght have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Sinn Féin Councillor Cathal King said the Corbally estate was a quiet area.
“It’s a very settled and quiet area. Normally there’s no trouble in it,” he added.
