Second viable device defused in Dublin
An army bomb disposal team made safe a second viable improvised explosive device (IED) at Rathcoole, Co. Dublin this afternoon, according to a statement released by the Defence Forces.
The IED was discovered during the planned search of a house by gardaí, and the team arrived on scene at 12.15 pm.
The device contained explosive content, the statement said.
No controlled explosion was carried out but the device was made safe on scene, with the all clear given at 1.30 pm. The remains of the device have been taken away for detailed examination and will be handed over to gardaí for further investigation into the incident.
The incident follows the defusing of an IED in the early hours of this morning in Ballyfermot.
That device was found underneath a privately-owned van on Cloverhill Road and was made safe at 12.05am.
