Rossiter inquest hears Garda ectasy claims
The inquest into the death of Brian Rossiter has heard his father was told by a detective garda that his 14-year-old son had taken 15 or 16 ecstasy tablets.
However, toxicology reports showed no trace of the drug in the Clonmel teenager's blood.
The inquest into his death resumed at the City Coroner's Court in Cork today.
On September 10, 2002, Pat Rossiter was told to go to Clonmel Garda Station because Brian had been arrested.
He said that Detective Garda Daniel Quinlan told him that his son and his friends had been arrested because they were out of control on drink and drugs.
He signed a statement allowing his son to be kept in overnight.
However, when the deposition was read out to him today, he disputed saying: "My son is out of control. He was in a row last night and got two black eyes and I know if he's let out he'll cause more trouble."
Mr Rossiter received a phone call the next morning telling him that Brian had been taken to hospital.
When he arrived, he said the detective told him that Brian had taken an ecstasy overdose of 15 or 16 tablets.
Earlier, Brian's friend Daniel Leahy told the hearing that he had told gardaí that Brian hadn't taken any ecstasy.
