Gardaí: 'Hand grenade used in Dublin bomb attack'

Gardaí have said that they now believe an explosive device, used in an attack on a house in Dublin last night was a hand grenade.

It was thrown through the front door of the house on Knocknaree Avenue at about 2am this morning.

It exploded, causing extensive damage to the hall and living room, and some damage to the upstairs rooms of the house.

Four adults, one teenager and a six-year-old boy were in the house at the time but all escaped injury.

Gardaí are carrying out forensic tests on a red Fiat Punto used in the attack.

It was found burned out on Sperrin Road a short time later.

The incident is believed to be linked to a feud between criminal gangs that has led to a number of attacks on houses in South Dublin over the past weeks.
