Teen accused of assault on Garda remanded on continuing bail
A 17-year-old boy, who has pleaded not guilty to an attack where he allegedly tried to push a Garda off a third floor flat complex balcony, has been remanded on continuing bail by the Dublin Children’s Court.
The boy had been charged assault causing harm to a Garda, at a south inner city Dublin flat complex, on September 17 last, which he denies. He was due to face a hearing before Judge Aingeal Ni Chonduin today.
However, the judge adjourned the hearing until September after being informed by defence counsel Ms Mary O’Sullivan that there had been a recent death in the boy’s family.
As a result of the bereavement the teen’s mother, who intended to be called as a defence witness, was unavailable to attend court.
Earlier Garda Sergeant Liam Walsh of Pearse Street station had told the court it was alleged that the teenager’s family home was being searched for stolen goods.
“The accused punched the Garda and tried to push him over the balcony,” he had said.
The Garda suffered a cut gum and a bruised cheek, the court had been told.
The south inner city Dublin boy who was accompanied to court by his father is subject to bail conditions compelling him to obey a curfew to be in his home between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
Legal aid has been granted.
