Flood family to be buried together

A family of four killed in a suspected murder-suicide carried out by the father will be buried together on Friday.

The village of Clonroche is expected to come to a standstill as the bodies of Diarmuid Flood, his wife, Lorraine, and their young children, Mark and Julie, are taken to their final resting place.

The remains of all four were released to their relatives last night, three days after a fire tore through their Co Wexford home.

Post-mortem results later revealed that both parents died from a single gunshot wound while tests on six-year-old Mark and Julie, five, proved inconclusive.

The removal will take place tomorrow evening, arriving at St Clement’s Church in Cloughbawn, Clonroche, at 7pm.

Father Richard Hayes confirmed that Requiem Mass will be at 2pm on Friday, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr Flood, a well-known businessman, his wife, a former beauty queen, and the children were discovered in their burned-out home in the quiet village of Clonroche on Saturday morning.

Mr Flood, 41, had been shot in the head and died where the fire started.

His 38-year-old wife had been shot in the chest and was found dead in the couple’s bedroom.

Her injury was not self-inflicted, while Mr Flood’s may or may not have been, gardaí said.

Their children suffered injuries consistent with a fire, but it did not cause their death.

Toxicology tests, which could take weeks, are being carried out to find out if they were drugged.
