Lenihan planning to simplify ombudsman procedures
Justice Minister Brian Lenihan has said he is considering simplifying the procedures surrounding investigations by the Garda Ombudsman Commission.
Mr Lenihan's comments follow criticism of the commission from the body that represents rank-and-file Gardaí.
The new president of the Garda Representative Authority, Michael O'Boyce, has accused the commission of "blundering incompetence".
He has also criticised the length of time it takes to investigate complaints against the Gardaí.
Mr Lenihan says the Government is looking at simplifying procedures to ensure the commission does not investigate trivial matters.
