Wedding brawl teenagers on probation

Two teenage brothers, who got arrested after a brawl broke out at a wedding reception, have been released on supervisory probation by Judge Ann Ryan at the Dublin Children’s Court.

The boys, aged 16 and 17 years, had pleaded guilty to charges under the Public Order Act for being intoxicated to such an extent they were a danger to themselves and others and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, on May 10 last.

Garda Colm Davidson of the Bridewell station had earlier told the court that gardai were called to a hotel, in Dublin city centre, after a fight started. The pair “failed to comply with a direction to leave the area and had to be restrained.”

The boys, who were accompanied to court by their father, did not have any previous convictions. They had left school early but were taking part in a training course.

“On the night in question they had been at a cousin’s wedding, an older cousin started the row,” their solicitor had said.

Their father had told the court that his sons had been involved in a feud with another family who constantly “watched them". He has had to escort his sons to and from their training courses every day.

Judge Ann Ryan imposed a three month probation bond on the younger boy and a six month bond on his brother. They have been ordered to continue to be supervised by the Probation Service in relation to their behaviour and training course participation.
