Light pollution on the increase

There has been a dramatic increase in light pollution in Irish skies over the past 10 years, it has been revealed.

Astronomy Ireland says increases in population and poorly-designed street lights are the main causes of the problem, which makes it harder for people to see the night sky.

It is one of a number of issues being addressed at the organisation's annual Astronomy Exhibition in Dublin today.
