Sara Byrne finished joint-second at the Jabra Ladies Open de France to claim her best ever finish on the Ladies European Tour.

The Cork golfer shot a level-par 71 on Saturday, adding to her 68 on Thursday and 69 on Friday, as she finished on five-under at the Evian Resort Golf Club. Byrne's two birdies in the round were cancelled out by two bogeys.

Germany's Helen Briem, who had led the tournament by three shots heading into the final round, claimed victory on 12-under while Lydia Hall and Shannon Tan were the others to tie for second.

It being Byrne's best performance on the tour was made all the more remarkable by the fact she had only just returned from a six-month injury lay-off. She won €29,250 for her finish.

“I’m really happy with that week to be tied second, my best-ever LET finish and first time in the final group,” said Byrne.

“Today was probably the best golf I played all week, unfortunately not one putt wanted to drop for me all day.

“I gave myself so many opportunities. I’m so proud of how I handled myself out there and this has been a fun week. It’s been really fun being back on Tour and putting myself in contention.”
