FF called on to clarify policy on breath-testing

The Donegal-based road safety group, Public Against Road Carnage, is calling on Fianna Fáil to clarify its position on compulsory breath-testing at the scene of accidents.

Last month, PARC received a letter from An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, pledging to amend the law if Fianna Fáil is returned to government.

However, Minister forTransport Martin Cullen has since written to PARC to defend the law as it stands, which leaves testing at an accident scene to the discretion of Gardaí.

Founding member of PARC, Susan Grey, said she fears that Fianna Fáil is playing election politics with the issue.

"We want to know: are they fully behind PARC?" she asked.
