EU to approve €60m for Ireland fund
The European Parliament is due to approve the allocation of €60m to the International Fund for Ireland later this week.
It will be the last EU contribution to the fund which is due to expire in 2010.
Since it was set up in the wake of the 1985 Anglo-Irish Agreement, the fund has helped create some 55,000 jobs in the North.
Fine Gael MEP and Senator Jim Higgins said this last cash injection will help promote reconciliation programmes among young people in the North and the border counties.
