The PSNI's Assets Recovery Agency has secured an interim court order for the seizure of £750,000 (€1.1m) worth of property belonging to two brothers suspected of cross-border fuel smuggling.

The ARA has claimed the properties, which include a house, an apartment, two petrol stations and a number of vehicles, were bought with the proceeds of fuel smuggling, laundering and other fraud.

The assets belong to Sean and John Byrne, who live close to the border just outside Newry.

The case was referred to the ARA following a joint investigation between British customs and the Criminal Assets Bureau in the Republic.
