Wexford tsunami victim’s remains to be flown home next week
The remains of the Co Wexford man missing since the Asian tsunami is to be flown home from Thailand early next week.
Michael Murphy from Blackwater was one of four Irish people who died as a result of the St Stephen's Day tidal wave.
He had been holidaying on Khao Lak island when the wave struck on December 26 and his family had heard nothing since he contacted them on Christmas Day.
Yesterday, Thai authorities confirmed to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Michael’s body have been formally identified thought DNA testing.
His family have said that they are preparing to bring his body home for burial but that the funeral arrangements will be kept private.
Michael Murphy was among four Irish people who died in the disaster, along with Lucy Coyle from Killiney in Dublin, Eilis Finnegan from Ballyfermot and Conor Keightley from Co Tyrone.
