Sellafield not linked to Louth cancer rate, says Registry
The National Cancer Registry believes increased cancer rates in Co Louth cannot be attributed to the Sellafield nuclear plant in Britain.
Reports this morning said the registry was of the view that higher cancer rates in the county were more likely to be linked to other factors like smoking, diet and sun exposure.
It reported the main cancers found in Co Louth were those of the lungs and stomach, which are mainly linked to smoking.
However, this morning's reports said the Cancer Registry had found no explanation for a relatively high number of skin cancers in the county.
