New archdeacon installed
The Venerable David Pierpoint was installed in the high-profile position of the Church of Ireland Archdeacon of Dublin today at a ceremony in Christchurch Cathedral.
Archdeacon Pierpoint was the Vicar of the Christchurch Cathedral Group of parishes for the past nine-years before he was chosen for this senior position in the Diocese.
The Archdeacon, 48, was ordained in 1986 and began his ministry as an auxiliary in Ballybrack, Co Dublin. He continued to work at his job in a bank at the same time.
Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Reverend Dr John Neill, chose Archdeacon Pierpoint personally for the role.
Many of the previous incumbents to the post have made their views known on issues and problems facing the city and country.
The Archdeacon was active in his efforts to build a worship centre in Dublin’s Docklands and is interested in the development of Dublin’s inner city and the current state of the health service.
In his previous role the Archdeacon Pierpoint served as Church of Ireland Chaplain to several hospitals including St James’, St Brichin’s Military Hospital and St Brendan’s in Grangegorman.
He is married to Denise (née Coates) and they have four daughters: Nicola, Karen, Amanda and Rachel.
Canon Pierpoint succeeds the Venerable Gordon Linney, who held the position since 1993.
