The British government has expressed optimism that progress can be made at today's all-party talks on the peace process.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have travelled to the North to chair the talks, which have been described as the most important since the Good Friday Agreement negotiations in 1998.
