Fans out in force for Keane homecoming

Three girls braved the cold and wet conditions to be the first in the queue to meet soccer hero Roy Keane at Eason’s Cork today.

Anna Deighan, Sarah Twomey and Linda Khalfi, of Carrigaline in Cork, camped outside Eason’s from 5.30am.

Anna said: “We really wanted to be the first in the queue. We decided last September that we would get here before everybody else.”

Sarah said: “Roy is lovely and he is a great footballer. We don’t know what we are going to say to him when we finally meet him.”

Linda added: “We would love him to come back and play for Ireland. He was right to leave the team in the World Cup.”

A thousand fans joined the queue throughout the day in the hope of getting into the 3pm book signing, but there are bound to be some disappointed faces, as Manchester United captain Roy Keane is only signing copies of his autobiography ‘Keane’ until 5pm.
