Baby born in back of garda car

Gardai in Co Donegal received a welcome image boost in the early hours of this morning after helping to deliver a healthy baby boy in the back of a squad car.

The car was summoned to bring expectant mother Sharon Gill to Letterkenny General Hospital after she called into Buncrana Garda Station when her waters broke.

The dash to hospital was cut short in Bridgend, however, when the infant Gill decided the time was now.

The two officers accompanying Ms Gill were forced to assist the delivery in the back of their car before continuing the journey to Letterkenny, where mother and son are said to be in a good condition today.
