€4m boutique hotel proposed for Limerick city centre

Planning permission has been sought for a new €4m boutique hotel in Limerick city.

The 35-bedroom hotel would be located on 17-19 Patrick Street.

The planning permission has been sought by developer Tony Enright, who recently spearheaded the development of the former Dunnes Stores on O’Connell Street into a restaurant which was recently given permission by the local council.

The new boutique hotel has been described as “boutique by design, Limerick by nature”. The site would be a “warm” and “characterful” city hotel which would be “unmistakably connected to Limerick”.

Limerick City and County Council is set to make a decision on the proposed development by Wednesday, November 18.

The 35 hotel rooms would be part of four floors on the upper levels of the existing building, with one accessible room to be provided on each floor.

The rooms would be “compact” and would not rely “on large-scale facilities”, but rather invest in “beds, showers, lighting, artwork, and atmosphere”.

The hotel would be located at the address of the Student Campus language school, which closed its doors over the summer.

Meanwhile, the Mexican restaurant Boojum would remain on the ground floor, at the corner of the site.

The proposed boutique hotel would cater for couples, leisure travellers and also business guests, as well as those attending sporting events and concerts.

The boutique aims to be “more than simply another place to sleep: a hotel connected to the life of the city, encouraging visitors to stay, socialise and experience Limerick”.

A brochure indicates that rather than “following a large corporate hotel format”, the hotel would be a “more intimate boutique experience” which would “feel” like Limerick.
