Victims of alleged Donegal corruption welcome inquiry
The solicitors representing individuals affected by alleged garda corruption in Donegal have welcomed the Government’s decision to establish a public inquiry into the allegations.
The solicitors said they have not seen the terms of reference for the inquiry, but believe it is a necessary step following years of foot-dragging.
In a statement released tonight, Binchy’s Solicitors said: "Our clients have brought the abuses in Donegal to the attention of the governing parties on numerous occasions during the past five years. Until now they have received no satisfaction or redress from those to whom they have written, including local Deputy Jim McDaid. They hope that the politicians with whom they so often fruitlessly corresponded will now be required to give evidence to the presiding judge."
