A man whose son was gunned down by the IRA in retaliation for the killing of eight of its members in Loughgall is standing in the local government elections, it emerged today.

Joe McIlwaine, whose 20-year-old son Joe was shot dead on a golf course near Lisburn in June 1987, is to stand as Northern Ireland Unionist Party candidate for a seat in Banbridge Council.
