ASTI dismisses Woods' £40,000 salary claim

The general secretary of the ASTI has dismissed claims by the Minister for Education that teachers can expect £40,000 basic salary through the benchmarking process.

The general secretary of the ASTI has dismissed claims by the Minister for Education that teachers can expect £40,000 basic salary through the benchmarking process.

Charlie Lennon said the figure was merely an opinion of the Minister based on the best guess as to what might happen.

He said that as the benchmarking group was an independent body, it was impossible for Dr Woods to say what it might propose.

Dr Woods yesterday predicted that teachers would get a sizeable raise through the benchmarking process.
