Talks underway at LRC in teachers pay row

Talks to try to resolve the teachers dispute are underway at the Labour Relations Commission.

The ASTI has agreed to suspend their strike action for one week to give the peace talks a chance.

However, with only one month left before Leaving Cert students undergo oral exams, the Government is under immense pressure to find resolution.

Teachers are threatening to resume strike action unless they get their 30% pay rise.

On his way into the LRC today, ASTI general secretary Charlie Lennon said that there is a one-week deadline for finding a formula.

The LRC say they are unhappy with the deadline, saying it is too tall an order to expect results in a week.
