Cavan family to be buried together
As gardaí continue to probe what led Alan Hawe to kill his wife and three sons before taking his own life, it has been confirmed that the remains of Alan, his wife Clodagh and their children, Liam, 13, Niall, 11, and Ryan, 6, will repose at Finnegans Funeral Home in Cavan town from 3pm-8pm tomorrow, before Father Felim Kelly celebrates Requiem Mass on Saturday at 4pm in Saint Mary’s Church in Castlerahan.
The five family members will be buried together in the local cemetery beside the church.
Meanwhile, investigating gardaí are hoping that a suspected murder-suicide note left at the scene may give them more of an indication as to the sequence of events leading up to the killings.
Autopsies on the bodies were completed yesterday.
It is thought that they show the mother and her children suffered fatal blade wounds.
Ms Hawe was found dead downstairs, while the children were found in two upstairs bedrooms, killed in their sleep. Mr Hawe was found dead, by hanging, downstairs.
Castlerahan National School, where Mr Hawe was the deputy principal and where Niall and Ryan were pupils, opened for the new term yesterday.
Staff at the school were briefed by psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service on how to talk to pupils about the tragedy.
