Over 40 items recalled from Dunnes and SuperValu over salmonella risk

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has recalled specific Dunnes Stores Baxter & Greene loose salad products and pre-packed products, along with SuperValu and Gem sesame seed products due to fears over the presence of salmonella.

Retailers have been requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Consumers have been advised not to eat the implicated batches.

Over 40 Baxter and Greene products which contain sesame seeds have been recalled. These include salad bar products such as goats cheese balls and gourmet sausage rolls, pre-packed wraps, sandwiches, and baguettes.

A recall was also issued for 200g batches of SuperValu Seed Mix with batch codes 163 and 166 with a best before date of May 2027 and batch 191 with a best before date of June 2027.

An alert has also been issued for:

• 1Kg Gem Sesame Seeds, with batch codes of 155 and 177. They have a best before date of May of next year.
• Sysco Sesame Seeds 1Kg batch 169 with a best before date of May 2027; Sysco Sesame Seeds 1kg batch 147 with best before April 2027; and Sysco Sesame Seeds 1kg batches 189 and 203 with a best before of June 2027.
• Sesame Seeds 25kg lot: 32704 and lot: 32308 have also been recalled.
• Sowans Sesame Seeds 100g with a batch code of 155 and best before May 2027 are also affected.

People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection.

The most common symptom is diarrhoea.

Other symptoms may include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.

The illness usually lasts four to seven days.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
